This was written in 2024. I don’t know why I didn’t post it before now:
A few days ago, I went to the supermarket to get a small thing of garlic powder (I have no idea how I let myself run out). The spices were selling two for three dollars. While I was also looking for basil (they didn’t have any), a young lady walked over grabbed onion powder and walked off. I walked over to her and said “Excuse me, miss.”
She looked like “Oh FFS, why is this creepy old man bothering me?”, but just said “Yes?” in the iciest voice possible.
I then told her “I saw you got the onion powder. I just wanted to let you know they are 2 for $3.”
She looked almost amazed that the creepy old man wasn’t trying to hit on her and was actually bringing some added value to her life, no matter how temporarily. She thanked me and grabbed another thing of onion powder.
I then purposely walked in the other direction, not because I didn’t want to be creepy but because that’s where I was going.
I’m not writing this to pat myself on the back because I didn’t harass this young lady who was just out there living her life. I wrote this because I understand why so many women are hesitant or even hostile when strange men approach them and why so many men are hesitant to offer even the tiniest bit of help to a strange woman.
Some times people should help people, but I understand why they don’t.
I just wanted to share.
