While I was looking for the John Coltrane video for the last post, I am across this video which is an intrepretation of the last movement of ‘A Love Supreme’ (Psalm). What a lot of people don’t know (and I was one of them until recently) was that the saxophone in Psalm was “speaking” a poem that John Coltrane had written. As far as I know, there are no recordings of John Coltrane actually speaking the words of Psalm, but the poem has been out there for a while and several people have put their voices to it. This is one such video.
I will definitely be looking for more of them. Whether you believe in God or not, if you have even a passing interest in beauty, you have to admit that this is beautiful.
